Pacific Dawn
Oct 26, 2003
Captian Hooks Sportfishing - Oxnard, CAToday we fished with Patrick Cavanaugh on the Pacific Dawn!We departed at 10PM. Our bait tanks had some live squid not a lot! The squid boats have been working Hueneme Canyon. The squid has been pretty thick. Just a few minutes out of the harbor mouth we hooked up with a light boat and scouped squid. No need to jig when you are right next to the light boat! Our plan was to fish at Santa Rosa Island. We proceded under calm seas. It was a very comfortable ride to East Point. We started fishing before grey light. Only bat rays and sanddabs were being caught in the dark. Here is Dennis Evans with a Sanddab.

Angler Tina Neale dropped down a little too low and got this FAT Sanddab. Oh yeah, she was the first person to catch a fish so she won a SFR T! Thanks for coming back out with us Tina and Norris! The fishing in the morning was real tough. We moved several times in search of the right bait ball. Each stop had the same result. NO FISH. However, we didnt let that stop us!

We departed promptly at 4:30 AM. We headed to Santa Cruz Island. The wind was up early in the morning so we fished the backside to hide from the elements. Angler Dennis Evans proudly holds the smallest sanddab caught and released this year. Congratulations Dennis!
