Western Atlantic Ocean — from Florida south through the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. A member of the needlefish family found in shallow coastal waters, bays, and estuaries of tropical and subtropical Atlantic waters. Found near the surface in warm, shallow coastal areas.

70°F–82°F. A warm-water surface fish found in shallow coastal waters of the tropical Atlantic. Forms small schools near the surface in bays and estuaries.

Best Lures: Small spinners and surface lures produce incidental catches. Best Baits: Small pieces of shrimp near the surface. Primarily captured with cast nets for use as live bait for Sailfish, Tarpon, and other large predators in the Caribbean and Gulf.

Typically 12–20 inches. Maximum approximately 24 inches. A slender, silver needlefish. Valued primarily as live bait for larger pelagic species.
