Eastern Pacific Ocean — from Alaska south to Baja California. Found in very deep water — typically 600–5,000 feet on soft and rocky bottom. Also called "Idiot Fish" by commercial fishermen. An important commercial species sold in restaurants as "Ono" (different from Hawaiian Ono/Wahoo). A deepwater scorpionfish rarely encountered by sport anglers.
