Sand Lance

Long, slender, eel-like body with no pelvic fins and a forked tail. Silvery with a greenish or bluish back. Dense schools are a major target for tuna, bluefish, striped bass, and many other species. Adults reach 5–8 inches.\n\n

Not targeted by anglers but critically important as a baitfish. Presence of Sand Lance schools often signals feeding activity of gamefish above and below. Sand Lance jig patterns mimic them effectively for striped bass and bluefish.
