Round Stingray

Circular disc shape with a short tail armed with a venomous spine. Brown to olive with a patterned back and a pale underside. Adults reach 12–24 inches across the disc.\n\n

Not targeted but commonly caught as bycatch on bottom rigs in Southern California bays. Handle with extreme care — the tail spine can inflict a painful venomous wound. Treat stingray wounds by soaking in hot water (as hot as tolerable) to denature the venom.\n\n
