Mottled reddish to olive-brown with light spotting. A series of smooth, lateral lines along the body. Males turn vivid blue around the head and pectoral fins during breeding. Adults reach 12–24 inches.\n\n

Best Baits: Shrimp, squid, cut fish.\n\n

Bottom fishing near rocky structure. Commonly caught alongside various rockfish. Good table fare with white, mild flesh.
