Pollock

North Atlantic Ocean — from Iceland and Norway south to the Bay of Biscay, and from Newfoundland south to New Jersey. Very abundant on Georges Bank and throughout New England waters. Also called "Boston Bluefish" in New England. More mid-water oriented than Cod or Haddock — actively chases baitfish schools. An excellent game fish — fights much harder than Cod or Haddock. Good eating — firm, white meat.

36°F–50°F. A cold-water species found throughout the water column — from the surface to the bottom. More active in mid-water than Cod.

Best Lures: Large diamond jigs worked aggressively produce excellent results — Pollock are very responsive to jigging. Large Stingsilver jigs and Norwegian-style pirks work well. Jigs worked at mid-water above the bottom are most effective. Best Baits: Fresh whole herring are the top bait. Fresh squid works well. Fresh mackerel produces results. Feather jigs tipped with bait are very effective.

Typically 3–15 lbs. Trophy fish reach 30+ lbs. World record: 50 lbs from Norway. Olive-green to brown with a distinctive yellow lateral line.
