English Sole

Left-eyed flatfish, slender and elongated with a pointed head and small mouth. Brown to grayish above with a pale belly. Adults commonly reach 14–22 inches.\n\n

Best Baits: Pile worms, sandworms, shrimp, small squid strips, clam necks.\n\n

Light tackle bottom fishing from piers, docks, and boats in bays and estuaries. One of the most common pier-caught flatfish in California. Small hooks (size 4–8) on a simple two-hook dropper rig work well.
